Award Nominated Back Garden In Great Bentley

About This Project

Find out why the Association Of Professional Landscapers shortlisted this back garden in Great Bentley for not one, but two awards.

THE CLIENT BRIEF

Our client came to Holland Landscapes with a garden design already created by our sister-company Tapestry Design Studios. The design brief was to improve the view from their conservatory window, replace a small pond with a water fountain and incorporate a large workshop into the outdoor space.

LOCATION

Great Bentley,  approximately seven miles east of Colchester in Essex

DESIGNER

Tapestry Design Studios, Colchester.

BEFORE LANDSCAPING

Other than a tired and crumbling patio beside the conservatory, this garden in Great Bentley consisted mainly of lawn and shrubs. A well maintained timber shed stood in one corner the garden and was accessed by walking across the lawn.

The garden itself was beautifully cared for but our clients felt it was in need of an update. They were particularly keen to remove a small pond which wasn’t working well for them.

THE GARDEN DESIGN

Garden Designer Katie Moyes of Tapestry Design Studio worked closely with the clients on two aspects of this design. Firstly the layout and then, following completion of the landscaping works, the planting plan.

The design brings colour and interest into every part of the garden. A large cabin-style workshop has been painted cream to reflect the colours in the new sandstone patio. Katie embraced our client’s idea of making the lawn into two concentric circles of grass. And this has created an interesting feature that looks amazing when viewed from upstairs windows.

The patio copes beautifully with changes of level in the garden and leads seamlessly to the access path for the new workshop. This path is made enticing by a large wisteria plant trained over an archway.

LANDSCAPING THE GARDEN AND BEING SHORTLISTED FOR AN APL AWARD

Having a great design to work with inevitably made landscaping this garden in Great Bentley a lot easier. All in all, the build ran quite smoothly with team leader Ben Jackson making a fantastic job of the patio.

Ben’s high standard of workmanship teamed with Katie’s garden design skills and supportive clients has lead to this garden being shortlisted for two APL awards. One for the design category and one for the landscaping category. Results will be announced in spring 2025 so please keep an eye on our social media to find out how we got on.
